'Brooks' saddles just got better....

I have never had the spare cash to put to a Brooks saddle - beautiful and desirable though they are. Perhaps when I finally get a custom built frame there will be no excuse.

But just to add to that desirability take a look at the work of Kara Ginther - leather artist.

I will not plagurise the words from other sites so visit her site directly or read this great interview courtesy of 'To Be Inspired'.

I am willing to post up their photos though:

End of the wind tunnel?

I don't know how directly this will affect testing and design of bikes as bikes after all are a little cheaper to produce and test - maybe this is actually trickling up from bike testing instead of trickling down.

Thought it might be of interest though - read it here.

Still with F1 - this Sunday sees the race at Abu Dhabi - it's a twilight race meaning it starts off light and then the sun sets. I always hoped that when the sun sets the car lights would come on (as with Le Mans) it's a little disappointing therefore that they actually just swamp the circuit with light.

But this is the first circuit that architecturally is starting to look like the conceptual graphics of futuristic racing games etc - pretty sweet too.

I was randomly searching for bike photos when I discovered this: it's a Volvo Extreme gravity car.

British National Track Championships

Currently underway at Manchester. British Cycling has a regularly updated site with results, some details and some nice photography too.

British Cycling at Track Nationals.
EDIT: I just found out that not only is Sir Chris Hoy British Sprint Champion again and also British Cycling have a rather great Flickr Page with loads of photos and video from the championships and other of this seasons events. The video of the Nationals does unfortunately make it quite obvious that there is hardly anyone watching in the stands - guess it is a week night though.

I am borrowing these photos from the Flickr page.
Ok so white lycra is see through when wet - someone should pay these guys more to wear black lycra when it's this stretched. You should see the women's podium though.
I would never let my daughter out in that.

Great photo.
I just love seeing the end curve of the World Championship bands for the track on her side.

Chevrons make you go faster and look hard as nails.

Barza Design

Credit for this goes to PezCyclingnews.
I was hoping to dig out some more interesting info or images from Barzaghi's website - but his site is pretty weak.

So instead I am going to borrow a photo and a quote from Pez and send you there for their article and to Barzaghi's own site for more.

Helmet sprayed for Paolo Bettini's new rally driving past time.
I love the 3d and comic effect of the bike helmet.

PEZ: What are the most difficult jobs?
Stefano: There aren’t jobs which are more difficult than others - all the jobs are difficult, if you want do them well. There are only long or short jobs.

A quote we could all work by.

I am ebaying the copy that came in the nice plastic wrap.

London 2012 - Pictograms

I am still in the UK but heading back to what may be seen as a new normality tomorrow.

London 2012 just released the pictograms for the events at their Olympics.
There is a static image for navigational use etc and also a dynamic version for graphics.
The dynamic version makes a great reference to the London Tube map.

See more here at Core77.

Richard, my brother.

The little guy on the left of the photo above is Richard.

On Tuesday morning he lost a fight with cancer.

It was a fight none of us knew he was enduring until 4 days before he died, so we are glad he was spared such a struggle. Admitted to Intensive Care with pneumonia a week before he spent that time sedated and on a ventilator, once he had recovered enough he was given a CT scan which showed us the real culprit of his illness.

I'll write more about him in the future.
Right now I am back in the UK with my family trying to come to terms with our loss.

Thanks to all that attended the Bike and Body Art Show.
If you haven't made it yet you still have until the 7th October, this Wednesday.
