It's not about the bike: there are babies too!

See I am a Dad and somethings take priority to cycling sometimes and somethings are just too cute too miss.

Having already painted and drawn Molly many times, though she doesn't keep still as much these days, I couldn't help but start sketching some of Molly's friends. This is Hanako, daughter of Anita and Makoto, and it was a little gift on the occasion of Hanako's 1st birthday.

'Tour Series'

Back in the '80s Malcolm Elliot and Joey McLoughlin raced the city center streets of the UK in a series of televised criteriums. Well they are back, with a twist. The Tour Series.

Ten cities are hosting the series, ten teams of 5 pro riders each will compete in each round. But it's not about the first rider across the rider, this is a team contest, the top 3 riders at the end of the hours racing will score their team's points. Yep it's team racing.

The first round took place in Milton Keynes on the 21st May and was won by the team of Candi tv - Marshalls Pasta which includes the aforementioned powerhouse Malcolm Elliot and also Russell Downing. Other pro's taking part include, Tony Gibb, Chris Newton, Ed Clancy and Rob Hayles. Quite a bit of track talent there.

Graeme Obree - a legend returns

"I'm not saying that I will break the hour record, but I am aspiring to do it," said Obree. "You know, last year was the first year since I was 16 that I didn't win a bike race."
My jaw dropped. Read his autobiography, watch the movie and browse You Tube.
He is a true British Victorian engineering eccentric born a century late.
Like all legends he has struggles with UCI demons and also psychological demons.

Again he has built his own bike that as always conforms to UCI standards.

If they outlaw this will we all return to racing on the 'hobbyhorse'?

The gear he has been training on is 138" - ouch.

Full article is here on Bike Radar
as is a photograph of the amazing machine he will be riding.

Cycling Board Games

Exactly what it says on the title - http://www.cyclingboardgames.net

A website written by Anki Toner, who collects cycling board games.
Of course this means Anki also studies, photographs, exhibits, catalogs and writes cycling board games.

What an amazing collection it is too, from the turn of the C20th through to the present day. A lot of them seem to work on the same principles and even look the same, but it's a hugs list and worth spending the occasional moment browsing.

As an added bonus many of these games are available for free by download.
This is the current special: 'Il Gioco Del Giro' by Donato Pompei

It will probably make you want to make your own too, 'mmmmmm....

New Welsh Jersey

I apparently own a 10 year old Welsh Cycling Jersey. I actually kinda love it except for the builder's merchants adverts.

Now it appears that the Welsh Cycling Union haven't actually awarded a National Champions Jersey to the Welsh national Champions for about 10 years!

Halfords, the UK car superstore which has recently become more involved in cycling with the launch of it's own pro team, the exclusive sales of Chris Boardman's range of bikes and now it's support of Vision 1 Racing (Nicole Cooke) has taken the initiative and produced the new jersey.

I am so glad we have one.
Just wish it didn't have the Halford's logos, that the white half wasn't transparent and that it didn't look like it was trying so hard to be Italian or something.

Ofcourse if they wanted me to send one so that I could test it out and give all my readers an onjective review.....
